Köfte ekmek is a popular Turkish street sandwich in which grilled, spiced Turkish meatballs are placed in soft, fresh bread (ekmek).
It is usually topped with tomato, onion and parsley. Although visitors can try it as a snack during the day, for many Turks köfte ekmek is the best choice after midnight. My mother and her friends always ate one after a night out in their student days — and decades later, my friends and I have kept up the same habit after a night at the bars.
