A historic collaboration between two tech rivals

According to multiple reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has decided to use Google’s advanced Gemini AI model to power the next generation of its voice assistant, Siri.

The new Siri is due in March 2026, and the collaboration may be the biggest partnership between the two long-time Silicon Valley rivals — a pragmatic move by Apple to make up for falling behind in the global AI race.

A complete Siri redesign powered by Gemini

The new Siri has been redesigned from the ground up and will offer smart web search, contextual understanding and AI-based planning — features missing from the current version. Paying Google, Apple is developing a custom version of Gemini that runs exclusively on Apple’s own cloud servers (Private Cloud Compute) to fully protect user privacy.

Launching alongside new Apple products

The Siri upgrade, originally due to be unveiled at WWDC 2024, will finally launch in 2026 after repeated delays caused by technical challenges and the departure of key members of Apple’s AI team. The new Siri will launch alongside new Apple hardware, including a smart home display with a speaker and wall-mount option, a new Apple TV and a HomePod mini to showcase AI features.

Apple plans to unveil the full Apple Intelligence platform at WWDC 2026, focusing on its AI strategy in iOS 27, macOS 27 and other operating systems.
