While sales of petrol and diesel cars in Türkiye continued to fall in the first nine months of the year, sales of electric and hybrid cars reached 331,955 units, with a 44.7% market share.
According to data from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), passenger car sales in Türkiye rose 9.98% year on year to 742,687 units in January–September. Light commercial vehicle sales rose 5.92% to 184,960 units. In the same period, 345,838 petrol cars and 198,174 hybrid cars were sold.
Diesel car sales totalled 58,695 and LPG cars 6,199. Sales of fully electric cars reached 132,640. Including extended-range vehicles — in which a petrol generator charges the battery while an electric motor drives the wheels — electric car sales in the first nine months reached 133,781 units, an 18% market share. Extended-range vehicles are classified as “electric” in customs tariff statistics.
Petrol and diesel sales continue to fall
In the first nine months, petrol car sales fell 19.1% and diesel sales 17.7%. Over the same period, LPG car sales rose 26.9%, hybrids 78.6% and fully electric cars 133.9%. The main reason for the fall in diesel sales is that global carmakers are continuing to stop producing such vehicles, so no new diesel models are coming to market.
