Digital content viewing has long overtaken broadcast TV in some countries.

According to a new announcement, this has now happened in Türkiye for the first time, with broadcast TV losing its position. Traditional television habits have been changing for some time. The spread of the internet and the growing number of digital platforms offer many options for people looking for different kinds of content.

Internationally, many traditional TV channels are no longer watched. Until now, however, Türkiye was different — but according to Vestel, things have changed.

YouTube, one of the world’s most popular platforms for creating and consuming content, is now leading in Türkiye as well. According to data gathered by Vestel’s Internet of Things (IoT) team, TV viewing habits in the country have shifted and YouTube overtook broadcast TV for the first time in July and August this year. By viewing time, YouTube’s share reached 43%, while traditional broadcasts stood at around 36%.

According to Nielsen data, YouTube has ranked first in viewing time in the United States over the past three months. Similar results have been seen in European countries, where viewing of traditional channels is falling day by day.
